September 2013

As corny as this may sound, September is one of my favorite months. A group of guys always gets together from church for “Fantasy Football.”  Fantasy Football, for you that don’t know, is pretty much just an excuse to be lazy and watch football games, rooting for your favorite players.  It has absolutely no eternal value what so ever; it’s just a silly game, with meaningless impact.  However, I can think of a ton of things that God allows us to have (or do) that may be meaningless but provides good fellowship and entertainment for us as Believers. One night a year all of us Fantasy Football nerds go to dinner and just hang out; no wives or kids allowed! Every year when we do this (on a Friday night) I see a group of my high school buddies at the restaurant as well.  Usually these guys are not on their best behavior; I can see the emptiness inside of them.  Because these guys know I am the “preacher” I usually get all kinds of stares and stories from them.  The only story I know to tell them is that I love them and so does the Lord. Our hearts should break for those who have a broken heart.  Not just feeling sorry for them, but having compassion for them.

I pray that you have some great Christian friends that you can hang out with and enjoy your time with. My “fantasy Football” buddies are great Christian guys. The Lord has blessed me with some great people in my life. It is a shame that I am going to have to beat the pants off of them in Fantasy Football this year. Let us continue to strengthen our relationships with our Christian friends and keep an eye open on those that are hurting, even when they don’t realize their hurting!
